Choosing your image

  • PNG with transparency works best.
  • Distinct color regions detect most reliably — busy photos or gradients are harder to separate cleanly.
  • Fewer colors keep files manageable. Since this tool builds solid height blocks per pixel, very high Detail + many colors can produce a large file — 250–350px Detail is plenty for a keychain-sized print.

🖨️ Use this tool if you’re doing manual filament changes — no AMS or multi-material unit needed. Every color is baked into one solid model at its own height. Print the bottom color, and the tool tells you exactly which height (in mm) to pause your printer and swap filament for each color above it.

Adjusting the tool — panel by panel

Same as our other tools — set sharpness, clean the background, punch out gaps, then detect your colors.

Stack order

Once colors are detected, use the ▲▼ arrows next to each swatch to set the print order — the color at the top of the list prints tallest, the one at the bottom is shortest (and prints first). Uncheck a color to leave it out entirely.

Export Settings

  • Base thickness — the solid plate everything sits on.
  • Layer height — how much height each color band adds on top of the last.
  • Slicer layer — match this to your slicer’s actual layer height, so the tool’s suggested swap heights line up exactly with a real layer boundary.
  • Print size — the longest side of your finished print, in mm.

Export mode

Choose Multiple STLs (ZIP) if your slicer/printer can assign a color per object (AMS-style setups), or Single STL if you’re pausing manually — the single-STL option is what pairs with the swap-height list.

Click Generate & Download — you’ll get your file plus the exact heights to pause and swap filament.
