Detailed Instructions

Choosing your image

  • PNG with transparency works best.
  • Distinct color regions detect most reliably.
  • 250–350px Detail is plenty for a keychain-sized print — this tool builds solid height blocks, so pushing Detail much higher mainly grows file size, not visible quality.
  • Leave room around your design for the keyring hole or ring.

🖨️ Use this tool if you’re doing manual filament changes — no AMS needed. Every color bakes into one solid model at its own height, and the tool tells you exactly which height (in mm) to pause and swap filament.

Adjusting the tool — panel by panel

Detail, Background Removal, Cut Interior Regions, Color Detection

Same as our other tools — set sharpness, clean up the background, punch out gaps, then detect your colors.

Stack order

Use the ▲▼ arrows next to each color swatch to set print order — top of the list prints tallest, bottom is shortest (and prints first). Uncheck a color to exclude it.

Keyring / Mounting

  • None — no mounting point.
  • Hole in print — punches through the piece. Set position, diameter, and edge gap.
  • Edge ring — a loop added to the outside edge. Set position, outer diameter, and band thickness.

Export Settings

Base thickness, layer height (how much each color band adds), slicer layer (match to your actual slicer setting so swap heights land on a real layer boundary), and print size — same as Layered Image to STL, plus the keyring is sized off this too, so resizing later in your slicer will also resize the hole.

Export mode

Multiple STLs (ZIP) for AMS-style multi-material setups, or Single STL for manual filament-swap printing — the single-STL option pairs with the swap-height list you’ll get after generating.

Click Generate & Download — you’ll get your file plus the exact heights to pause and swap filament.
